Emily H. Folio
Ms. Folio joined Hostetter Strent in December of 2011 having practiced family law throughout the state of Maryland and the District of Columbia since 2008. Ms. Folio has represented clients in all aspects of family law litigation, including contested divorce proceedings, child custody and child support hearings, and property distribution and spousal support hearings. She also has extensive experience representing clients in all phases and types of alternative dispute resolution, including attorney negotiation, mediation, and collaborative divorce.
Ms. Folio earned her Juris Doctorate from Golden Gate University School of Law in 2007 and her Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology, summa cum laude, from the University of California at Davis in 2003. While in law school, Ms. Folio excelled in family law studies and received the Witkin Award and the CALI Award for her accomplishments in Family Law Trial Practice and Family Law. As a law clerk for the Center for Families, Children, and the Courts, a branch of the Judicial Council of California, Ms. Folio worked directly with the Honorable Leonard P. Edwards and conducted research on the role of mediation in family law and the importance of alternatives to litigation. This work has guided and shaped Ms. Folio’s practice throughout her career.
Ms. Folio has been recognized in the 2024 editions of The Best Lawyers in America and Baltimore Magazine’s Top Attorneys in Maryland. She has been listed as one of Washington D.C.’s Top Lawyers in 2024, and she has been named a Super Lawyer by the Maryland and Washington, D.C. Super Lawyers Magazines since 2021. She has also been named in the Washingtonian Magazine’s Top Divorce Lawyers list. In addition, she was a member of the Inaugural Class of Montgomery County’s Bar Association's Leadership Academy. Ms. Folio also has served as co-chair of the Montgomery County Bar Association’s Outreach Committee since 2020.
Ms. Folio joined Hostetter Strent to aid mothers, fathers, and children as they restructure their family and transition from one household into two.
